KIDS FIRST!™ Kid Jurors say...
"A yes with kids across the board. All of the children sat engrossed throughout the show. They interacted with the characters when asked to and talked about it afterwards. They were particularly fond of the frog, Ribert. The rollercoaster and the music were also big hits. Definitely, they wanted to see more."
"Loved this. It's so cool. The characters are nice to each other. It's funny, there's drawing, and fun magic."

Professor Art in Sesame Street LIVE: Elmo's Coloring Book!
'Elmo's Coloring Book' a crayon-hued delight
"Like an old friend — cozy, comfortable, reassuring — Sesame Street Live is back...and, as always, the popular family show brings fun, frolic and warmth to its adoring audience. This year's outing is Elmo's Coloring Book, a journey with all the favorite Muppet characters...into the world of colors and what might happen if, all of a sudden, we lost them.
Professor Art, a coloring book creator, has arrived on Sesame Street to help them travel into the pictures they have drawn, thanks to a high-tech contraption that he's created. The story, told through amusing songs and dances, emphasizes the importance of sharing, diversity and the acceptance of others — even those with no color at all.
The show has played here before but it's been revamped a bit, so it seemed fresh and new. That's because the producer, VEE Corporation, maintains high standards in music, costuming, set design and special effects. Each Muppet costume, for instance, is well-maintained, not matted, a risk with all that fur.
The musical numbers, too, are sprightly and bright for the kids, yet wry and witty for the adults. Familiar as it is, Elmo's Coloring Book is still good, wholesome family fun and worth checking out with your tots this weekend."

Lefou in DISNEY'S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
"With talented leads, a supporting cast with strong voices and a real flair for the comic...this is one beauty of a show."
"The daffy Lefou (Matthew Furtado)... an all-around funny guy."
"You'll be happy to be their guest."
-Review of New Bedford Festival Theatre's production of Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (Directed by Jean Paul Richard...one of five regional premieres) by Tony Lewis, The Standard Times (July 2004).
"A talented & dedicated group of people can really rise to this difficult challenge. The version of "B & B" that we saw last night was more consistently entertaining than the version I saw in NYC at the Lunt Fontaine theatre just a year or so back. These folks really threw their hearts & souls into this production. They weren't phoning it in. And it showed ..."

Billy Bigelow in CAROUSEL
"Matthew Furtado as the hot tempered Billy Bigelow...his take on the troubled character is effective...punctuated by a rich baritone voice and nervous mannerisms which are appropriate, given his terrible life--and death--choices.
His "Soliloquy," which ends Act One, stands as one of the evening's shining moments."
- Review of The Star Players of Bristol County production of CAROUSEL (Directed by Joel A. Thayer) by James A. Merolla, Silver City Bulletin (August 2004).
"I was able to see Carousel Thursday August 19th. I would just like to say that the whole entire cast was fantastic and blew me off my feet. Matthew Furtado did an incredible job singing and acting along with Tara Hunnewell. I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future (Matt) and to everyone else in the show, great job."

Ko-Ko in THE MIKADO
"The zany plot gives rise to some outrageously funny moments...Furtado, a master comedian who moves like a cat and enunciates impeccably, does very well with the signature Gilbert & Sullivan patter songs... Furtado appears to have a bright future ahead."
-Review of Salt Marsh Opera Company's production of THE MIKADO (Directed by D'Oyly Carte's Thomas Lawlor) by Lee Howard, The Day (October 2004).
"I saw you Saturday night in The Mikado. I was bowled over by the energy you brought to Koko. You were wonderful! Thank you!"
-Barbara, Audience Member
"The best patter-man I've ever worked with..."

Pierre Frapper in RED NOSES
"Matthew Furtado succeeds as Pierre Frapper, the stuttering stand-up comic who discovers he can speak clearly when given a puppet that might have stepped from Avenue Q, if it had legs."
-Review of The Gamm Theatre's production of RED NOSES (Directed by Peter Sampieri) by Jim Seavor, Motif (February 2005).
"The Gamm, it seems, has a winner on its hands...the show is both funny and touching...With almost two dozen actors playing multiple roles, it's a little hard to name everyone who made a contribution. But there were some funny moments from the likes of Casey Seymour Kim, who gets to play both a prostitute and a leper...Wendy Overly is a hoot as crude Madame Bonville, who believes she can ward off death by keeping one eye peeled at all times. Matthew Furtado is the stuttering comic who gains his voice through a puppet that looks like Ernie from Sesame Street...don't make the mistake of missing it..."
-Review of The Gamm Theatre's production of RED NOSES (Directed by Peter Sampieri) by Channing Gray, The Providence Journal (January 2005).

"A+...packed with pithy apothegms as well as nonstop humor...it's a tribute to the power of the ensemble that everyone shines."
-Review of The Gamm Theatre's production of RED NOSES (Directed by Peter Sampieri) by Sandy MacDonald, EDGE Boston (January 2005).
"Trinity Rep director Peter Sampieri has taken these 22 talented actors and coaxed out some marvelous moments...This is the sort of episodic seriocomic lark that lives or dies on actors making picaresque characters vivid. We've got to hear the heartbeats...There are too many such characters, and good performances, to mention...an excellent ensemble."
-Review of The Gamm Theatre's production of RED NOSES (Directed by Peter Sampieri) by Bill Rodriguez, The Providence Phoenix (February 2005).

"There are many funny moments...a stuttering stand-up comic who finds his voice through a puppet...Tremendous performances all around..."
-Review of The Gamm Theatre's production of RED NOSES (Directed by Peter Sampieri) by Frank O'Donnell, The Valley Breeze (February 2005).
"There is no deadwood in this huge cast of 22 members and standouts abound...The director Peter Brook once described the ideal theatrical experience as being "rough, holy and immediate". "Red Noses" is all of that and a barrel of laughs to boot."
-Review of The Gamm Theatre's production of RED NOSES (Directed by Peter Sampieri) by Bill Oakes, TheaterNewEngland.com (February 2005).

COMEDY MAGIC PERFORMANCES
"Matt Roberts is not only truly gifted at his craft; he is also a wonderful person. Matt performed at our corporate dinner and he was a huge hit with all our guests. He was like a perfect drink or dessert at the end of a big dinner...just enough, not too heavy, easy to digest. And he was FUNNY! Matt worked with me from day one to personalize the show and he arrived at the venue early and was extremely professional, personable and patient. He put a smile on even the most stern face and he was the perfect partner in my facilitation of the night's events. I will most definitely use him in the future and recommend him to everyone I know! Thanks Matt!"
-Jennifer Ceolinski, Associated Equipment Distributers Conference
"What a fun time you provided for our wish children and their families. Many parents asked me where I found you. Most felt it was the best magic show they had seen. I will let you know the date of our next picnic, as we would love to have you perform again. Please accept our deepest gratitude for your kindness and support. On behalf of everyone at Make-A-Wish, especially our wish children and their families, thank you!!"
-Beverly Molles, Make-A-Wish Foundation
"In a day and age of huge stage shows and mega stars performing feats of illusion before millions of television viewers, Matt Roberts is a one-man show. He is a modest man with no flashy costume, no scantily clad assistants, no tigers and no piercings...However, it is Roberts' simplicity and his infusion of comedy that set him apart from other magicians. In short ... he doesn't take himself too seriously and audiences say they love it. On Saturday, Roberts dazzled a sold-out crowd at the Winnipesaukee Playhouse using simple items like a deck of cards, a rope and a newspaper...he is widely considered one of the more popular and busy magicians in New England [who] gets his kicks from just getting up on stage and looking at the faces of those who come out to see him perform his craft. "For me it's just the reaction from the audience ... my show is very me," he explained. Judging from the laughter and gasps he got at the Winnipesaukee Playhouse, he got just what he was looking for."
